TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER ADMINISTRATOR

Location: Ames – District 1 Office
This position is the Transportation Engineer Administrator in the District 1 Construction Office in Ames. The main function of the position is to supervise, consult and assist three Resident Construction Engineer's, the District Materials Engineer, county, and city officials in District 1 on matters related to highway construction, inspection procedures, project documentation and progress, personnel, training requirements and project management. The employee in the position is to serve as a member of the District Office Management Team in evaluating and resolving field operational and management concerns and making appropriate decisions or recommendations to higher authorities.
As part of the main function, the District Construction Engineer has broad responsibility for the administration of construction contracts on rural and urban primary highways, interstate highways and state parks and institutional roads within the District. These responsibilities include overseeing the administration of construction contracts by attending preconstruction conferences to assist in resolving project-related questions; making field reviews of construction projects to monitor construction activities and contract progress; extra work orders, and final payment vouchers; consulting with and providing assistance to resident construction engineers, serving as a liaison with Central Office departments to resolve problems which arise during construction operations; reviewing construction contracts for final acceptance and supervising negotiations of contractor disputes to ascertain reasonably prompt, acceptable settlement of issues relating to work performance and liquidated damages; participating in preliminary project planning and designs prior to letting to provide field input for project development, including participation in field reviews of project concepts, and field examinations of preliminary project designs; and oversee administrative functions of construction operations with the District, including assigning projects to each resident construction office for contract administration, reviewing personnel and vehicle needs of the resident construction offices based on assigned construction contracts and responding to public contacts in a timely manner. License: A valid Iowa driver’s license must be possessed and maintained. A valid Iowa Professional Engineer license must be possessed and maintained. Shift: Days; with some overtime and occasional overnight travel required.

Job Description: Motor Vehicle Officers enforce commercial motor vehicle laws related to authority, registration, dimensions, insurance and safety regulations. Under general supervision, this position weighs and inspects commercial vehicles and operates permanent weigh stations, in addition to moving patrols. Must possess and maintain a valid Iowa driver’s license.
Lifting: Some heavy lifting will be required (50-75 pounds).
License: A valid driver's license must be possessed and maintained.
Travel: Overnight travel not regulary required.
Shift: Rotate shifts day - evening, night. Rotate according to shift Monday through Sunday.

HIGHWAY TECHNICIAN #iadotjobs
Location: Council Bluffs - South Garage
This position performs a range of duties. These duties may include equipment operation and physical labor activities including but not limited to:
* snow and ice control
* repair and maintenance of roadway surface and shoulders
* assignment as crew leader
* perform routine sampling, testing and inspection of construction materials
* perform routine survey activities
* perform routine field and lab tests for construction and materials inspections
* collect, classify and report project data
These duties require the ability to work outdoors during inclement weather, to lift objects up to 65 lbs., and to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) instruction permit is required at the time of appointment. Within 14 calendar days following appointment a valid Class "A" CDL must be obtained with air brake, tanker and any other required endorsements. At the time of appointment, the Department of Transportation may provide assistance with training and a vehicle for testing. The CDL must be maintained in order to continue employment. The employee must reside within 30 minutes driving time (during normal conditions) from the assigned workstation. Compliance with this residency requirement will be determined by the selecting authority (not to exceed 5 months). This position is subject to pre-employment drug and alcohol testing as well as other drug and alcohol testing requirements. Travel: Some travel and overnight stays may be required. ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN SENIOR
This Engineering Technician Senior (ETS) position is in a Rural Design Section. The Section is responsible for the design of rural highway construction projects. The ETS performs advanced paraprofessional engineering work in the preparation of roadway plans for highways of a broad scope and complexity. Typical responsibilities include training and guidance of other team members in design practices, computer aided drafting and design (CADD) and the development process. Also, assisting the Section Engineer in planning section workloads, reviewing submittals to other offices, reviewing final plans for completeness prior to submitting for engineer review, participating in Field Exams, Public Information Meetings and right of way reviews when requested. This position requires an individual capable of technical application of engineering design for highways of a broad scope and complexity. This ETS will be the Design Section expert in preparing earthwork calculations for final plans, mass diagram and earthwork balancing. The work of the ETS position will involve the use of calculators, the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written form for a wide variety of needs. The filling of this position is critical to the Office of Design as the need to meet established project deadlines is of utmost importance. Shift: Days. Monday thru Friday.

EQUIPMENT OPERATOR SENIOR

Location: Sidney
This position is an assistant under the general direction of the highway maintenance supervisor. Assists in the coordination of work by assisting in the planning of work schedules, providing leadership and guidance, coordinating maintenance operations in the field, monitoring work performed and documenting crew activities; performs related work as required. Operates trucks, loaders and other maintenance equipment and does require working outdoors in inclement weather. Possession of a valid Class "A" CDL with air brakes and tanker endorsement is required at the time of hire and must be maintained. This employee must reside within 30 minutes driving time (during normal conditions) from the assigned workstation. Compliance with this residency requirement will be determined by the selecting authority (not to exceed five months). This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing. Lifting: Ability to lift and load items weighing up to 95 pounds to the height of 55 inches above the ground. Shift: Days; 7:00am thru 3:30 pm. Monday thru Friday; subject to call 24 hours a day during emergency conditions with some travel and overnight stays may be expected.
