Digital Historian Student Summer Intern -Ames
To qualify, students must be currently enrolled; majoring in a program related to the position such as Library Science, Journalism, History or similar areas of study.
The position, located at the DOT in Ames, will primarily be focused on creating an aid for cataloging, preservation, and recall of the Iowa DOT’s photo collection and digitizing print and negative images. The position may also assist with archiving video files.
Applicants should be detail-oriented and have good organizational and written communication skills. The position requires the ability to organize and catalog materials using standardized language for indexing images and video. Applicants must have computer and keyboarding skills and be comfortable handling historic slides, film, photographs, and negatives to preserve their quality. Interest in historic preservation and knowledge of video formats a plus.
This is a paid internship, starting at $14.05/hour. Starting date will be May 19, 2014.

EQUIPMENT OPERATOR SENIOR -Clarinda
This Equipment Operator Senior is a leadership position whose primary role is to report to and work with the District 4 Paint Crew located at the Clarinda Maintenance Shop. Travel and overnight stays are expected. This position requires the ability to operate and maintain technical highway painting equipment, provide positive leadership and guidance, and coordinate work crews and functions. This position shall be required to assist with snow removal activities, operate trucks, tractors, loaders and other maintenance equipment in a safe manner, normal highway maintenance activities and respond to emergency situations. These duties require the ability to work outdoors during inclement weather and the ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Lifting: Ability to perform heavy work, occasionally (1-33% of the time) lifting/lowering, carrying and pushing/pulling various items/using force from 50 - 100 lbs. Team lift or mechanical assist recommended for weights over 75 lbs.
CDL: Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Instruction Permit upon hire. Within 14 calendar days following appointment, a valid Class A CDL must be obtained and maintained with air brake and tanker endorsements. Requires a pre-employment drug screen and will require ongoing participation in the employer’s random drug and alcohol testing program and will be subject to the regulations regarding the Federal drug and alcohol testing program.
Additional Requirements: Post offer, pre-employment physical. Within 5 months of appointment, must reside within 30 minutes driving time, during normal conditions, from assigned work location. Requires certification for testing materials and operating specialized equipment. Must respond to emergency situations as required. Must be able to work up to 16 consecutive hours. Some overnight travel may be required.
Shift: Days; and is subject to call 24 hours per day, 365 days per year during emergency conditions.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT 2 -Dubuque

Responsible for assisting the Driver License Supervisor by answering technical issuance and record questions from employees and customers, along with preparing reports, answering correspondence, and monitoring and reviewing issuance transactions completed at the station.
Responsibilities include instructing employees, distributing and balancing the workload, reviewing applicant eligibility and qualifications in order to assure that driver licenses and identification cards are issued in compliance with Iowa laws, departmental rules and established procedures. Administers special reexaminations (written, driving, or visual) and reviews medical/vision reports to assure that the applicant is medically and physically capable of safely operating a motor vehicle.
Requires experience and detailed understanding of state/federal laws, rules and procedures affecting driver licensing, Driver Services/DOT policies, and licensing procedures and requirements. Excellent written/communication skills and experienced customer service skills.
Shift: Tuesday through Saturday with rotating schedules
